Art
Painting and mixed media
Throughout high school, I took my time to explore a wide range of styles when it came to my painting techniques. I played with landscapes, explored still-life and also had some fun with graphic art. I usually manage to find a deep sense of ease through painting. It’s also one of my favorite ways to express myself. Through my art, I find that my personality shines through.
Quarantine
No matter who you ask, they’d probably say 2020 was not what we had anticipated. For my friends and I, we somehow found a way to make the best of it. This is what it looked like the first week of the shut down. We would spend our days online, learning. Then, the six of us would head down to the basketball court and hang out. At a distance, of course. No matter what, we’d make sure to catch the sunset over the Hudson River and appreciated being with each other before our town went into an actual lockdown.
Heaven
I don’t know much about the afterlife. But a few days after my Great Grandma passed away, I was inspired to explore what heaven might look like. This is what I came up with.
Under the Sea
Visiting the aquarium has always been a treat. I’ve always been mesmerized by the vibrant colors that come through in almost magical ways. Here, I explored the world under the sea, experimenting with the presence of light. The outcome highlights the jellyfish, a sea creature I happen to love.
Holiday Lights
Sure, summer is warm and free. But between the crispy weather forcing us to wear cozy sweaters and the festivities, winter will always be my favorite season. Here, I wanted to reflect the joy I experience during the Holiday season.
Autumn
Here I ran an experiment, using only the warm side of the color wheel.
Collage on my laptop
Art is one of my favorite ways of expression. It flows through pretty easily for me and I find that I’m also able to incorporate art into other aspects of my life, such as academics. In this collage, I’ve taken symbols that describe me and what I think is important. “Get Sherlock” is from my favorite TV show, Sherlock. There’s the New York skyline, which is home. Then there’s my favorite food, avocado and toast. Finally, fists in the corner representing my belief in equality.
Three Hearts
Little me exhibited a passion for equality without knowing it. While I may have made this collage piece when I was in the third grade, I feel it reflects my values of love, freedom, and self expression.
Snowy Night
I’ve always loved “Frosty the Snowman” and have a distinct memory of the snowy forest in the animated classic. Here, I’ve recreated that peaceful forest during sunset.
Lemon
I’m proud of my first attempt at still life style painting. This has recently become a style I enjoy because of the way you can bring an inanimate object to life simply through shadows and highlights.
Calculator Cover Painting
I have a habit of making my school supplies as vibrant as possible. Somehow, it makes learning more fun. This is a lava lamp I painted onto my calculator with acrylic paint.
