About Me
Hi, I’m Sara!
A Senior at Dobbs Ferry High School, an IB Diploma Candidate, Varsity athlete and dedicated musician, I work hard to maintain balance. While a diligent IB student, I fill my time outside the classroom doing the things I love.
I never considered myself to be a serious runner. But freshman year of high school, out of the blue, I joined the track team. I never looked back. After competing in my fair share of sprints, jumps and mid distance races, I finally found my passion in long distance running. Running cross country became a way for me to not only stay active, but to find peace.
I love to cook, and experimenting with varieties of toast gets me out of bed every morning. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day but, to me, toast makes it the most creative meal of the day. I love combining sweet and savory just to see what I can come up with. My recent favorite combines avocado toast with banana peanut butter toast.
Creativity shows up in my life in many ways. It’s in my hobbies, academics, even my school supplies. But one of my favorite ways to use my creativity is to demonstrate school pride. This pep rally banner I designed for the “Jedi Juniors 2021” won first place against the other grades.
Although COVID impacted the pep rally in 2020, I worked with the Activities Branch of Student Government to find ways to demonstrate Senior pride this fall even without a massive poster. We created Senior T Shirts as a surprise gift for the class of 2021. I drew the design on the front of the T shirt myself, and love seeing my classmates wearing it!
I don’t like sitting still. This became truly apparent during the pandemic. During the summer of 2020, I participated in the Discover the World of Communication Program through American University. Through the program, I created a short video about how my community adapted to COVID-19.
Camp Iroquois Springs has been my summer home for 7 years. I feel the best way to convey how much I love and appreciate my camp community is through the montages I create each summer, combining footage I film at camp with music. Some of my videos have even been shared on the camp’s social platforms for promotional purposes. Here is my “Summer 2019 Highlight Reel”.
After witnessing a fatal hit and run right in front of my High School in 2019, I became passionate about advocating for safer streets in my Village. Being the only student on the Safe Routes Committee, I attended and volunteered at events to raise awareness, one event even leading to a bill that reduced the speed limit in Dobbs Ferry.
I am proud to share that Dobbs Ferry HS has been named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Dept. of Eductation, under the “Exemplary High Performing School” category.
DFHS has also been named a NYS Recognition School for 2019-2020.
